Abstract

Ten years after the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement, it is appropriate to carry out an evaluation of its scope, particularly in light of the rapid evolution of the international economic panorama. Of course, while waiting for all the planned stages to be achieved, there is a need to update it by placing it on a competitive level with the other integration schemes and taking into account the geopolitical strategy in which it was conceived. Of special importance for an analysis is to consider its viability in a commercial environment in which the Asian component has entered strongly, leading to the question of whether is sufficient to promote the sustained development policies of the states in the agreement. For Mexico, this approach constitutes an opportunity to deepen its commercial integration by proposing new lines of complementation that allow the construction of a new North American commercial space.
