The present paper examines the construction of feminist discourse and its relationship with the social discourses of hygienism and eugenics during the 1930s. Drawing on the insights of discourse analysis, I approach a corpus of magazines edited by feminist organisations during the period, in particular those of the Partido Cívico Femenino and the Movimiento Pro Emancipación de la Mujer Chilena. Emphasis is placed on the debates concerning the health of women, exploring the operations that legitimise feminist discourse, and that end up building an heterogeneous discourse, with many voices and alternatives vis-à-vis other social discourses.
