In the following paper I approach the problem of militancy in the recent history of Southern Cone memories through an analysis of the dynamics of silence and vindication. The text is divided in three parts. First, I make a conceptual introduction concerning the notion of “memories”. Secondly, I discuss the Italian research experience with respect to the memories of the Resistance. Finally, I go back to the Argentinean case trying to give an account of the most important trajectories in the discussion of militancy and armed struggle in the country. Throughout the article I emphasise the conflictive and polemic dimension that any process of recall carries with it.
