The present paper reflects on the changes and continuities of the dictatorial experience in Brazil taking into account recent protests in 2013. It proposes an analysis that relates models of development, the colonising expansion towards Amazonia and the socio-political pact forged in the midst of the Brazilian post-dictatorship, with a special emphasis on the governments of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff. Under that light, protests appear as one of the most visible signs of the deterioration of the “Lulist” pact.
